Sergio Reguilón to join up with Messi at Inter Miami

Inter Miami, fresh off its first-ever MLS Cup triumph, has secured another major signing: Spanish international Sergio Reguilón.
The Madrid-born left-back, who turns 29 next Tuesday, arrives as the direct replacement for Jordi Alba, who announced his departure after helping Lionel Messi’s squad defeat Vancouver in the final.
A career across Europe’s elite
Reguilón’s résumé includes stints at Logroñés, Real Madrid, Sevilla, Tottenham, Atlético Madrid, Manchester United, and Brentford. His agent, Borja Couce, worked for weeks to finalize the deal, continuing Inter Miami’s tradition of bringing Spanish talent to South Florida under David Beckham’s ownership.
The contract runs for two seasons with an option for a third, underscoring Miami’s confidence in the defender. Reguilón already owns a home in the city, easing his transition to life in the US.

From El Clásico to MLS
The move sets up a fascinating reunion in the locker room: Messi, Barcelona’s legendary icon, alongside Reguilón, a Real Madrid academy product. The two faced off in several Clásicos during the 2018–19 season under coach Santiago Solari.
Reguilón played 22 matches for Madrid during that season, recording three assists, and later debuted for Spain in September 2020 during a Nations League win over Ukraine.
His trophy cabinet includes a FIFA Club World Cup with Real Madrid (2018) and a Europa League title with Sevilla (2020).
Eyes on the Concacaf Champions Cup
Reguilón’s biggest challenge in Miami will be helping Messi and company chase the Concacaf Champions Cup — a trophy Inter Miami has never won. Having already shared a personal meeting with Messi, where the two reportedly hit it off, Reguilón is eager to prove he still has the energy and motivation to perform at the highest level.
With Messi leading the charge and Miami riding championship momentum, the stage is set for Reguilón to remind fans of the dynamic left-back who once electrified the Bernabéu.
