Phillies news:
BREAKING: Cuban OF Adolis García and the Philadelphia Phillies are finalizing a one-year, $10 million contract, pending a physical, per sources.
Adolis will look to contribute on a contending team and return to his 2023 offensive production, when he was named ALCS MVP.

Listen, if remnants of 2023 Adolis Garcia remain, then it’s gonna be a fun summer at the ballpark. This was a guy who went to the All-Star Game two years ago with an .836 OPS, 39 home runs, and 107 RBI. He followed up that regular season with a 20-hit playoff performance, logging eight dingers and 22 runs batted in as the Rangers did what the Phillies failed to do, which is put away the Arizona Diamondbacks.
But if the Phils receive 2024 and 2025 Garcia, you’re getting a guy who is going to hit .225 while striking out 150 times. His OBP and slugging numbers were down over the last two seasons at age 31 and 32. Regardless, they’ve signaled that Nick Castellanos is out the door and someone else is playing right field this season.
Francys Romero also notes that Garcia “will become the first position player born in Cuba to wear a Phillies uniform since Tony Pérez in 1983.” That reminds me of this famous clip from Half Baked:
Kevin has been writing about Philadelphia sports since 2009. He spent seven years in the CBS 3 sports department and started with the Union during the team’s 2010 inaugural season. He went to the academic powerhouses of Boyertown High School and West Virginia University.
