Neighbours legend Jackie Woodburne returns to TV tonight – just four days after soap ended for good

Neighbours legend Jackie Woodburne is returning to TV tonight, just four days after the soap ended for good. The actor, who played Susan Kennedy for over 30 years, is now leading the Channel 5 drama The Imposter.

Set in Australia, the series follows matriarch Helen (Woodburne), who runs a seaside hotel with her three adult children. When Helen decides against selling the business, a huge feud erupts within her family.

Meanwhile, newcomer Amanda (Kym Marsh) adds to the chaos by claiming she’s the secret daughter that Helen gave up for adoption many years ago. Helen is delighted to reunited with her child, but is Amanda who she says she is?

The four-part drama, which also stars Dannii Minogue, is set to begin tonight (15 December) at 9pm on Channel 5, with new episodes airing every day until Thursday’s finale (18 December).

A newly-released trailer for The Imposter features an almost unrecognsiable Woodburne, as her character struggles to keep her family and business running. While Helen and Amanda form a fast bond, it’s clear that the rest of the clan aren’t as welcoming.

The clip teases suspicion, betrayal and even murder when a scheme spirals out of control. But who is left with blood on their hands?

The video was shared on Instagram by the official Neighbours account, following the soap’s final episode last Thursday. “As we say goodbye, we’re also celebrating the incredible talent who made Neighbours home,” read the caption.

“Our very own Jackie Woodburne returns to screens tonight in The Imposter – a gripping new four-part drama on Channel 5. A completely different role… but the same powerhouse talent we’ve loved for decades as Susan Kennedy.”

Susan Kennedy first arrived in Erinsborough in 1994 and became the second longest-running character in the show’s history. Her husband Karl (played by Alan Fletcher) is the longest-running character, having appeared just nine episodes prior.

After more than three decades on Ramsay Street, Susan was a key part of the Neighbours finale. In the show’s last scenes, she delivered a moving and hopeful monologue before vowing not to give up on her beloved community.

The Imposter airs tonight at 9pm on Channel 5.
