Beyond Paradise’s Martha Lloyd star opens up on mystery guest joining cast

There’s good news for fans of Beyond Paradise as BBC viewers are set to return to Shipton Abbot very soon for a Christmas special. This comes after Sally Bretton opened up on their co-star’s exit.

The third series of the popular spin-off show came to an end earlier this year, during which a new romance blossomed between Archie (Jamie Bamber) and Esther (Zahra Ahmadi).

However, one relationship that was as solid as ever was between Martha (Sally Bretton) and Humphrey (Kris Marshall).

BBC viewers have been rooting for Martha and Humphrey’s relationship since series five of Death in Paradise, before they left Saint Marie together to start a life in the UK

Touching on the relationship between Martha and Humphrey, who are both in for a treat this Christmas, Sally detailed why she believes people are such fans of their relationship.

She said, “I think because it’s a real love match. They are both kind-hearted by nature, and they genuinely want the best for each other. As a couple, they enjoy each other’s company and have so much fun.

“It’s been a hard road for them, and they’re finally in a happy spot. I can’t wait for viewers to see their relationship develop in the next series.”

Before the next series, fans can see the pair enjoy the festivities in the Christmas episode, as Martha has a surprise in store with the help of Anne, Zoe, and a mystery guest.

When asked if she’s good at keeping secrets or whether or not she gives things away, Sally commented: “Oh no, I’m good at keeping secrets. If someone entrusts me with one, then I’m like a vault.”

Also speaking about the mystery guest, actress Barbara Flynn teased that the surprise viewers can expect to see is a ‘happy one’.

Detailing her own success at keeping secrets, Barbara added: “I do try not to give the game away! Secrets come in all shapes and sizes, and the smaller ones are easier to keep.

“I haven’t had much practice lately, but as actors we’re used to holding things back, both in scenes and interviews. It’s lovely to keep a secret, especially when it’s a happy one.

A synopsis for the upcoming Christmas episode reads: “When Esther discovers a man on the steps of the Shipton Abbott police station with no memory, holding a photo of Humphrey, the team gets to work to uncover who the mysterious man is while balancing a flurry of festive cases in the Beyond Paradise Christmas Special.

“At the same time, with the help of Anne, Zoe and a special guest, Martha races to pull off her secret plan while Kelby tries to help a mystery man trapped inside his snowman costume. But with an influx of unexpected visitors, a slew of holiday crimes to crack, and a heartwarming reunion on the line, can the team juggle it all and still be ready for a life-changing reveal?

The Beyond Paradise Christmas special will air on 21st December at 9pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
