Mike Elko comments on Aggies’ offensive coordinator situation ahead of Miami Playoff game

Before current A&M offensive coordinator Collin Klein leaves College Station for good to be head coach at his alma mater Kansas State he’ll be calling the plays for the Aggies throughout their College Football Playoff run.

Klein commented on how he will try to manage time between building a coaching staff and roster for the Wildcats while also overseeing the Aggie offense, during his introductory press conference.

“I need to ask coach [Bill] Snyder, because he could fit 26 hours in a day somehow,” Klein said. “No, I’ll be back and forth. There will be responsibilities during the day when I’m in College Station prepping for the playoff game, whichever round that we’re in that week. And then anytime there’s a break and in the evenings, coming back here and getting going on recruiting, beginning to start building a staff and building relationships with our players.”

Head coach Mike Elko commented on how he feels about the current state of the position ahead of the Aggies game against Miami in the first round of the CFP during his weekly press conference.

“I think it’s a very collaborative process that we go through on offense,” Elko said. “I have a ton of confidence in Collin, in who he is as a man, and who he is as a competitor, that he’ll give the focus and energy that he needs to to ensure that this thing is done the right way and finished the right way.”

A&M found unprecedented success on the offensive side of the ball in just the second season with Klein calling the shots, averaging 36.3 points per game, the most since 2013. With QB Marcel Reed officially returning to Aggieland next season, the next offensive coordinator will be in charge of building off the powerhouse Klein established in 2025.

The potential in-house favorite for the position is wide receiver coach and co-offensive coordinator Holmon Wiggins, who joined Elko’s staff in 2024 after serving five seasons in the same position at Alabama under Nick Saban. Elko commented on his belief in Wiggins during the same weekly press conference.

“I got a ton of respect for Holmon, I think he does a phenomenal job,” Elko said. “No different than when I was a defensive coordinator, and this is to take nothing away from Collin — Collin’s, phenomenal. But I think sometimes there’s a belief that it’s a one man show. It’s never a one man show.”
