Windy conditions close Hood Canal Bridge Monday afternoon

Extreme windy conditions closed Hood Canal Bridge to traffic Monday afternoon.

The Washington State Department of Transportation announced around 12:30 p.m. that the bridge between the Kitsap and Olympic peninsulas is closed until further notice, due to high winds.

The National Weather Service Seattle office has issued a wind advisory for the remainder of Monday, Dec. 15, as well as a high wind watch from the evening of Tuesday, Dec. 16 through Wednesday morning. The advisory applies to most of Western Washington, and could bring gusts of up to 55 mph, NWS said in its statement.

WSDOT said the bridge is being closely monitored and will reopen as soon as possible. Further updates will be released online.
