Georgia State QB TJ Finley enters NCAA transfer portal

Georgia State QB TJ Finley plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal, per On3’s Pete Nakos. He’s played for LSU, Auburn, Texas State and Western Kentucky during his career as well.
He spent this past season at Georgia State where he threw for 1,244 yards, six touchdowns and seven interceptions. Finley appeared in seven games and went 1-6 in those games.
“The last two years have been the most challenging of my life. Balancing new fatherhood, injuries, and adversity off the field has been tested in ways football never could,” he wrote on Instagram. “Through it all, my love for the game never left. Football is who I am. I still love competing, leading, and playing at the highest level.

“Due to a season-ending injury sustained in 2024, I am applying for a 7th year and I’ve decided to pursue it fully. I thank God for carrying me through the storm and allowing me to put everything behind me as I move forward to 2026. I’m focused, healthy, and motivated. I look forward to finishing my career at a university that gives me an opportunity to compete, lead and finish strong. The story isn’t over.”
Finley was originally supposed to spend the 2025 season at Tulane. However, he entered the transfer portal after he was suspended from the program. That led him to ultimately transfer away from the program and later commit to Georgia State.
That was just one moment in Finley’s long college career. It began in 2020, playing for the LSU Tigers, fresh off their national championship victory. He spent one season there before transferring to Auburn, where he played for two seasons. Finley transferred to Texas State for the 2023 season before ending up at WKU.
Finley’s most productive season came in 2023 when he was the Bobcats’ true QB1. He completed 279 of his 414 passes for 3,439 yards, 24 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He added 81 sack-adjusted yards and five additional touchdowns on the ground. All told, he’s thrown for 7,372 career yards, 43 touchdowns and 27 interceptions.

Now, he could be returning to college football for a seventh season, seventh program overall, and sixth he’d take snaps for under center. He never played a down at Tulane, but was used frequently during his time at all of his previous stops.
