Kobbie Mainoo brother makes major controversial move at Old Trafford

Kobbie Mainoo is having a rocky spell at Old Trafford after the Manchester United midfielder has fallen out of favour under Ruben Amorim.

The former England international made his breakthrough under Erik ten Hag, even helping United with a goal in their 2-1 FA Cup final win over Manchester City to secure Europa League football two years ago.

However, when Amorim replaced ten Hag and Mainoo came back from injury, the midfielder found himself on the bench more and more, a complete change from his previous status as a routine starter.

In the summer, seeing how his prospects at Old Trafford had changed, Mainoo asked to go out on loan to get more minutes on the pitch to help reclaim his spot in the England national team ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Unfortunately United rejected the request, keeping the midfielder on the bench, and are looking likely to reject a January move.

Now, as a result of his brother’s fall from favour at Old Trafford, Kobbie Mainoo’s brother, Jordan Mainoo was seen at the Theatre of Dreams with an extremely controversial t-shirt.

The top read “FREE KOBBIE MAINOO”, clearly referring to him being ‘trapped’ on the bench, unable to get into the starting squads or move to another club.

Unfortunately for Mainoo, his current situation isn’t likely to change despite Napoli looking to reunite him with former teammates Scott McTominay and Rasmus Hojlund.

Amorim is set to be without Bryan Mbeumo, Amad Diallo and Noussair Mazraoui for the rest of 2025 at very least due to the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

As such, the squad depth is already being significantly limited, especially on the right-side, meaning that losing Mainoo in January is extremely unlikely.
