Bali tourist found dead under bridge

Bali is currently experiencing extreme weather conditions with a tourist found dead under a bridge in the popular coastal town of Canggu.
The impacts of Tropical Cyclone Seed 93S is wreaking havoc across the island bringing heavy rain, strong winds and rough seas, leading to major flooding in tourist hotspots such as Kuta, Seminyak and Denpasar.
According to the Bali Sun, a female tourist was swept off the road, along with her motorcycle, as floodwaters rose. She was found dead underneath the Krisnantara Road Bridge in Tibubeneng Village, in north Kuta, on Sunday.
“We assigned five personnel to carry out the evacuation. According to reports, the victim was below and caught in a pipe,” Head of the Denpasar Search and Rescue Agency, I Nyoman Sidakarya, said.
The body of the victim, who has not yet been identified, was evacuated that morning around 10.30am local time and taken to a nearby hospital for further assessment.
On Sunday morning around 1am, it’s understood heavy rain triggered flooding and strong currents around the bridge.
“The victim is suspected of wading through floodwaters and being swept away by the current along with his motorcycle,” the Head of the Public Relations Sub-Division of the Badung Police, First Inspector Ni Nyoman Ayu Inastuti, told reporters at a press conference.

The Bali Sun reported a total of 22 personnel were deployed to recover the woman’s body.
The publication added that due to the precarious position and strong currents of the floodwater, the motorcycle has yet to be removed from the culvert.
“The victim is a female foreigner. However, we do not yet know her full identity because she was found without any identification. Officers are still co-ordinating with relevant agencies to determine her identity and residence,” First Inspector Inastuti said.
Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology & Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has issued an extreme weather alert for Bali Province up until December 18 as floods reach Legian.
Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade has also updated its advice for Indonesia, warning travellers that heavy rains have caused significant flooding in Bali and Jakarta, disrupting transport, including flights.
It comes as Tropical Cyclone Senyar wreaked havoc in the northwestern island of Sumatra, after forming in the Malacca Strait two weeks ago and previous serious flooding in Bali in September 2025.
So far, floods and landslides have killed 1,006 people across Indonesia, rescuers said Saturday.
The disaster has also injured more than 5,400, the National Disaster Mitigation Agency said.
The deadly torrential rains are one of the worst recent disasters to strike Sumatra, where a tsunami wreaked havoc in 2004 in the northern tip of the island.
The final toll is expected to rise, with the disaster agency’s spokesman Abdul Muhari saying 217 people are still missing and that authorities were ramping up aid to the worst-affected areas.
With vast tracts of territory destroyed by rain, mud and felled trees, 1.2 million residents have been forced to take refuge in temporary shelters.
