Vancouver Canucks sign Max Sasson to two-year contract extension

The Vancouver Canucks are hanging on to Max Sasson.
The 25-year-old centre has signed a two-year contract extension worth $1 million per season, the team announced Monday. The contract is a one-way deal, per CHEK’s Rick Dhaliwal.
“Max has made the most of the opportunity presented to him this season and has provided us with some solid play,” said Canucks GM Patrik Allvin.
“Since signing with the organization out of college, he has shown significant improvement, using his speed and skill to build a strong foundation for his future. Max was a key contributor to our championship run last year in Abbotsford, and we’re excited to watch him continue to grow as a player.”
Sasson is in the last year of a contract paying him a league-minimum $775,000 salary at the NHL level. He was scheduled to become a Group 6 unrestricted free agent on July 1.
After being one of the Canucks’ final cuts in training camp, Sasson was recalled to Vancouver after just two games in Abbotsford. The Birmingham, Michigan native has been fixture in an NHL lineup that has been decimated by injuries, particularly to the centre ice position. Sasson has taken advantage of the situation, and is currently tied for six on the team in goals (6).
Sasson first signed with the Canucks as an undrafted free agent in 2023, following two impressive NCAA seasons with Western Michigan University. He scored 78 points in 106 AHL games with the Abbotsford Canucks, and was a key member of the team’s Calder Cup championship last season.
