Dry and bright today before rain and unsettled weather returns, Met Éireann forecasts

After a dry and bright period to kick off this week, there will be a return to more unsettled conditions, Met Éireann has said.

Frost, mist and fog will linger for the early part of this morning before clearing later on. It will be cold and mainly dry today with plenty of sunshine, and just a few showers in counties along the west coast.

Highest temperatures this afternoon will be between 4 and 9C.

It will stay dry and clear early on tonight before rain builds up in the west and spreads across the country. It will be a cold night at first with lows of 1 to 4C, but it will turn milder later in the night.

Rain will persist in all areas into tomorrow and may turn heavy at times. That will clear later on in the day and be followed by scattered showers. It will be a slightly milder day, with highest temperatures of 10 to 13C.

After a wet day, tomorrow night will be dry in most areas, with lows of 4 to 8C.

Thursday is set to be wet and windy with persistent rain turning heavy at times during the morning and afternoon. This will clear later in the day and be followed by showers coming from the west, with some turning heavy and bringing a chance of hail or thunderstorms.

Highest temperatures on Thursday will be between 7 and 10C.

There will be a return to drier conditions on Friday, which is expected to be a sunny day with just scattered showers in areas along the west coast, and highest temperatures again of 7 to 10C.

Current signs for the weekend show more rain and showers are on the way, but more settled weather is set to arrive from the early part of next week.
