How (and when) to watch Fallout Season 2 in Australia

Of all the video game to live-action adaptations in history, 2024’s Fallout is probably the one with the most admiration for the source material.

Season 1 proved you could capture the charm and humour of the Fallout franchise while telling a compelling original story. That love for the series is palpable in the teasers shown for the second season, where we see the ragtag group of Wastelanders (and Dogmeat) heading to the fan-favourite locale of New Vegas.

Here’s everything you need to know about Fallout ahead of the Season 2 premiere on Wednesday, December 17.

How to watch Fallout Season 2 in Australia

Fallout is an Amazon Prime Video exclusive. That means you will need an Amazon Prime membership to watch Season 2 episodes as they air. Amazon Prime Video costs $9.99 per month. It’s unlike most streaming services in that it gives you a suite of additional perks, like standard Amazon Prime shopping benefits, Prime Gaming, Prime Music and more.

A single Amazon Prime Video subscription lets you stream in up to 4K resolution on three devices at once.

There is one catch, however. Unless you’re okay with ad breaks, you will need to pay an additional $2.99 per month to remove ads. Given the overall affordability of Amazon Prime Video, it doesn’t usually get any significant discounts. But you can still save money with a select few Amazon Prime Video deals, such as cutting 30% off the monthly cost by signing up for a year of Prime upfront.

What is Fallout Season 2 about?

Season 1 of Prime’s Fallout was more about establishing the lore and factions of the post-apocalyptic universe for newcomers and fans alike. While the plot wasn’t directly inspired by any single game, the universe and setting were mostly cribbed from 2008’s beloved Fallout 3

Lucy Maclean (Ella Purnell) is a mostly atypical Vault Dweller whose confined world is thrown into shambles by a group of raiders. Maximus (Aaron Moten) is a ruthless and regretful Brotherhood of Steel pledge, and The Ghoul (Walton Goggins) is a bounty-hunting ghoul with an interesting pre-war history. In fact, the character most gamers will be familiar with is Dogmeat, Fallout’s canine companion.

Fallout Season 2 is set to align a little closer to the plot of one particular fan-favourite game: Fallout: New Vegas. The teasers so far have shown the eclectic foursome (yes, we count the dog) arriving in the Wasteland’s version of Sin City, where the enigmatic Mr. House rules from the confines of a control room.

The fact that the moustache-twirling Mr. House is played by Justin Theroux (The Leftovers) is just about all you need to know before diving into Season 2.
