New Zealand cricketer Devon Conway remained unsold as franchisees saved their purse during the initial few minutes at the IPL Auction. The New Zealand opener, whose consistency, calm temperament, and top-order versatility make him one of the most reliable performers, surprisingly went unsold.
The moment Devon Conway’s name entered the IPL Auction pool, the franchises refused to raise the bar, although Conway is one of the technically assured top-order batters in T20 cricket.

As per his previous performances, Devon Conway is far more than a dependable overseas top-order batter — he is a precision-driven run machine who brings stability, class, and match-winning temperament. Devon Conway was a key top-order batter for the Chennai Super Kings in previous season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), known for his consistency, elegance, and ability to anchor innings. His calm approach, clean strokeplay, and strong record against both pace and spin have established him as one of the most valuable batters.

During his time with CSK, Devon Conway made an instant impression. In his maiden IPL season in 2022, he amassed 252 runs in just seven innings, averaging 42 with an impressive strike rate of 145.66. His breakout year came in 2023, when he finished as the tournament’s third-highest run-scorer, where Conway scored 672 runs in 15 innings at an average of 51.69.
Conway was instrumental in CSK’s victory over the Gujarat Titans in the 2023 final, contributing a crucial 47 off 25 deliveries. In IPL 2025, Conway’s form dipped noticeably. After missing the 2024 season, he returned to the CSK lineup but could score only 156 runs in six innings, averaging 26 with a strike rate of 131.09. Although CSK secured him for ₹6.25 crore in the mega auction, his performances fell short of the standards he had set in earlier seasons.
Across his seasons with the franchise, he featured in 29 matches, scoring 1,080 runs at an excellent average of 43.20 and a strike rate of 139.72.
