Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s teammate Abhigyan Kundu entered his name in the history books on Tuesday (December 16) by becoming the first batter to score a double century in the U19 Asia Cup. The 17-year-old left-handed batter came out to bat at No. 5 for the India U19 side in their third group match against Malaysia on Tuesday and needed just 121 balls to reach the 200-run mark. Before him the record of the highest score by an Indian batter in the U19 Asia Cup was in the name of Sooryavanshi.
In India’s first match of the ongoing tournament, Vaibhav slammed 171 runs from 95 balls against the United Arab Emirates.
Abhigyan remained unbeaten on 209 runs from 125 balls. During his stay at the crease, he hammered 17 fours and 9 sixes. He completed his double century by hitting N Sathnakumaran for a six on the third ball of the 49th over of India’s innings.
Abhigyan’s super show with the bat helped the India U19 team post a total of 408 for 7 in 50 overs against Malaysia.
For India, apart from Kundu, No. 4 batter Vedant Trivedi scored 90 runs from 106 balls, and Vaibhav slammed 50 runs from just 26 balls.
During his stay at the crease, Vaibhav slammed five fours and three sixes for the Indian team.
209-run partnership for 4th wicket
Abhigyan and Vedant added 209 runs for the fourth wicket for the Indian team on Tuesday. Vedant slammed 7 fours for the Ayush Mhatre-led side.
For the Malaysian team, Muhammad Akram picked up five wickets for 89 runs in 10 overs, and one Indian batter was sent back to the pavilion by Jaashwin Krishnamurthi, who conceded 54 runs in his quota of nine overs.
India defeated Pakistan by 90 runs in 2nd match
India faced Pakistan in their second group match of the ongoing U19 Asia Cup in Dubai on Sunday (December 14) and secured a win by 90 runs. In that fixture, No. 3 batter Aaron George scored 85 runs from 88 balls, and Kanishk Chouhan made 46 runs from as many balls. In the bowling as well, Kanishk dismissed three Pakistani batters, and Deepesh Devendran also accounted for the dismissal of three Pakistani batters.
