BBC star Sarah Greene found love with late husband’s friend in ‘message from beyond grave’

Television star Sarah Greene has previously revealed that her current partner was a dear friend of her late husband, Mike Smith. She even suspects that Mike “orchestrated” their union from the grave.
The 68-year-old is renowned for hosting Blue Peter and Saturday Superstore, and currently appears on BBC One quiz programme The Finish Line alongside Roman Kemp.
She was formerly married to Mike, a previous Radio Breakfast Show and Top Of The Pops host, from 1989 until his heartbreaking death in 2014 at the age of 59, following complications from major cardiac surgery.
In 2022, the television presenter spoke candidly about her romance with one of Mike’s dearest friends, former British touring car champion Robb Gravett, hinting that Mike had even orchestrated their connection.
Speaking on the My Time Capsule podcast, she disclosed: “I sort of know Mike is pulling so many strings in my life,” reports OK!
She continued: “He has undoubtedly been responsible for me meeting my beloved who was one of his oldest friends, who waited a certain amount of time but did keep leaving messages on the answering machine. I thought he was just being kind.
“Then I got a message almost saying, ‘For God’s sake, Greeno, Robb is trying to make contact with you because he actually wants to take you out, not because he’s kind. So will you just get off your arse and go and answer the phone next time it rings!’
“And lo and behold, a whole new conversation started. I’m sure, and Robb is very sure too, because it’s a very strange situation.”
Sarah went on by sharing her initial concerns: “I remember being terribly worried and saying to this dear man who I’d known for all these years, ‘Isn’t it strange coming into the house and seeing all these pictures everywhere of Mike?’
“He said, ‘No, no, it’s not strange. It’d be strange if they weren’t there. And remember, I love him too.'”
The pair were photographed together in 2018, though precisely when their relationship blossomed remains unclear.
Sarah has made her television comeback this week, appearing in several Christmas episodes of The Finish Line on BBC One, following the programme’s ongoing popularity. The hit quiz show features Roman Kemp challenging contestants in an exciting blend of racing and general knowledge, with Sarah by his side.
Each instalment sees participants battle through qualifying rounds and direct face-offs for the opportunity to claim a monetary reward. The objective is straightforward – cross the finish line ahead of your competitors.
Intelligence and velocity merge to create compelling racing drama with heart-stopping conclusions and abundant suspense.
Unlike the regular series, the Christmas editions showcase famous faces, including Rachel Riley, Christopher Biggins, Tim Vine, Will Best, Clare Richards, Joe Pasquale, Charlie Brooks and Layton Williams.
In a previous statement, an elated Roman shared: “I’m so happy that The Finish Line is coming back to Northern Ireland to film for a fourth series and that we get to gift audiences with a Christmas special to get everyone in the festive spirit.
“The contestants are, as ever, a highlight. Watch out for some more bonkers answers in a race to get over the line, and the celebrity guests for Christmas are going to be a real treat!”
The Festive Finish Line is available to stream on BBC iPlayer
