WWE legend cuts ties with company over Donald Trump support: ‘Can’t stands no more’

Mick Foley has had just about enough of the WWE and its support for Donald Trump.

So, the legendary wrestler said on Tuesday that he is parting ways with the company.

“While I have been concerned about WWE’s close relationship with Donald Trump for several months — especially in light of his administration’s ongoing cruel and inhumane treatment of immigrants (and pretty much anyone who ‘looks like an immigrant’) — reading the President’s incredibly cruel comments in the wake of Rob Reiner’s death is the final straw for me,” Foley wrote on Facebook.

“I no longer wish to represent a company that coddles a man so seemingly void of compassion as he marches our country towards autocracy,” he continued. “Last night, I informed @WWE talent relations that I would not be making any appearances for the company as long as this man remains in office. Additionally, I will not be signing a new Legends deal when my current one expires in June.

“I love WWE, will always treasure my time with them, and I am deeply appreciative for all the opportunities the afforded me. But in the words of Popeye the sailor, ‘I stands all I can stands, and I can’t stands no more.’”

Fans were quick to flood Foley’s post with responses.

“Jim Cornette has always been correct when describing you Mick Foley: ‘Mick Foley is too kind of a human being to be in the Wrestling business,’” Hector A. Morales Rivera replied. “Although I can separate the business from politics, I applaud you for this.”

“Who would have through after all those big injuries & falls, Mick would be one of the few WWE legends with a fully functional spine,” Matt Gordon replied.

There were many more comments like that and you can see them all here.

Foley’s announcement comes on the heels of the weekend’s “Saturday Night’s Main Event” card that featured John Cena’s retirement match. It was widely reported that the WWE invited Trump to attend the match.

Foley, is one of the WWE’s most beloved figures from the “Attitude Era.” He wrestled as himself as well as his characters Mankind, Cactus Jack and Dude Love, and turned in some of wrestling’s most memorable hardcore matches.

He is a three time WWE champion and a three-time WWE tag team champ.

Both Foley and Trump are in the WWE Hall of Fame.
