Vancouver Canucks could lose Arshdeep Bains for nothing on waivers

Arshdeep Bains was an inspiring story for local fans of the Vancouver Canucks.
However, his time with the organization is at a crossroads.
CHEK’s Rick Dhaliwal reported on Tuesday that the Canucks have placed Arshdeep Bains on waivers.
Bains, who was born in Surrey, B.C., was one of Patrik Allvin’s first signings as general manager of the Canucks. He signed the undrafted free agent to an entry-level contract in March of 2022 while he was still a member of the WHL’s Red Deer Rebels.
The 24-year-old climbed the organizational ranks by performing well in the AHL, where his playmaking and ability to kill penalties helped him earn ice time with the Canucks.
His stunning performance in the Calder Cup playoffs, coupled with a strong preseason, led to him making the 23-man roster out of training camp.
Bains’ first game of the season was stellar as well. He got on the scoresheet with a nice assist to Filip Chytil and brought fans out of their seats with multiple key blocks on the penalty kill.
Unfortunately for Bains, that was the peak for him this season.
The youngster looked too timid at times and struggled with consistency. He began to lose his spot in the lineup to a journeyman like Mackenzie MacEachern.
Now, 31 teams in the NHL will be able to claim Bains.
He has one goal and five points in 26 games this season. For his NHL career, he’s registered two goals and six points in 47 games.
Bains is making $775,000 per season at the NHL level, and he’s signed for this season and next.
