Packers RB MarShawn Lloyd suffers another soft-tissue injury

The never-ending injury saga of Green Bay Packers running back MarShawn Lloyd appears to have taken another turn for the worse. On Friday’s final injury report, the Packers added a hamstring injury for Lloyd, who did not practice on Friday and was ruled out for Sunday against the Denver Broncos.

The Packers placed Lloyd on injured reserve to start the regular season after he suffered a hamstring injury during an August preseason game.

Lloyd, a 2024 third-round pick, was designated for return off injured reserve on Dec. 1. He was listed with a calf injury, the injury he suffered early on in training camp, and not with a hamstring injury, but that changed again Friday.

If Lloyd did, in fact, re-injure his hamstring or suffer some kind of setback from a previous injury, his 2025 season is almost certainly over. The Packers only have a 21-day window to activate him from injured reserve, and his deadline is coming next week. Considering the Packers have three capable running backs on the 53-man roster, it would be difficult to find a spot for an injury-prone player who has appeared in all of one regular season game over the last two seasons.

Lloyd is an explosive mover, and the Packers have long believed he could be a big-play threat as a runner and receiver. But injuries have torpedoed his first two professional seasons.

The Packers sent Lloyd to UW-Madison this past offseason in an attempt to solve his recurring hamstring injuries. Lloyd also went to specialists on the West Coast after suffering his preseason injury.

Coach Matt LaFleur won’t be available to offer an update on Lloyd until after Sunday’s visit to Denver to play the Broncos.
