Washington | White House chief of staff Susie Wiles says President Donald Trump is using his position to settle scores with opponents and is seeking regime change in Venezuela, in a series of Vanity Fair interviews that has the West Wing in damage control mode.
Wiles, the understated top aide to Trump and the first woman to hold the job, also gave frank assessments of those in his orbit: Vice President JD Vance was a “conspiracy theorist”, top budget tsar and arch-conservative policy architect Russell Vought “a right-wing absolute zealot” and Elon Musk an “an odd, odd duck”.
