HEAR FROM THE UTES
Head Coach Gavin Petersen
Overall Statement . . .
“Great team win. We came out a little sluggish for whatever reason, but we were able to find a rhythm and really get it going. This week hasn’t been easy. We are battling a lot of bumps, bruises. I mean it’s hard— Division I athletics, especially this time of year— it’s hard. I am super proud of how everyone in the program has responded with positivity and pouring into each other. We have had some great practices. Even with a limited number of available people. Like I told the team, one of my favorite quotes is, ‘When the winds of adversity hit, adjust your sails,’ and we have. We are coming together at the right time with one more nonconference game here in the Huntsman [Center] against UC Riverside. Then, it is Big 12 play. We’re really looking to finish our nonconference slate with another game that we can continue to stack good games in a row.”
Lani White, senior, guard
On her outstanding performances the last two games . . .
“I think my confidence is just really high right now. I am feeling good beyond the arc but I am also just trying to stay consistent. I am still getting in the gym and working on things. I know we spoke a couple days ago but my percentage was not good earlier in the season. I am not shooting only for percentages but looking for consistency. I am just happy my teammates got me good looks and I was able to knock them down and that they trust me to shoot those.”
On what the team needs to improve on . . .
“I think our turnovers can be reigned in. Our turnovers need to be lessened by a lot and also, the conversion on turnovers. Teams can’t get that many points on us due to our turnovers.”
Reese Ross, junior, forward
On what the team needs to improve on before the next game . . .
“I definitely agree with our turnovers but I think staying consistent and being able to put four quarters together is so important. Having this capability of understanding how important every single possession is. Because when people are coming in and off the bench, it is just crucial. Your role doesn’t change regardless if it is a five-point game or a 30-point game. Just staying consistent in our effort can always improve.”
UP NEXT
Utah will face UC Riverside on Dec. 17 at 7 p.m. in the John M. Huntsman Center. Utah will then start Big 12 play Dec. 22 at Arizona. The Utes first home Big 12 game will be against the Sun Devils of Arizona State on Dec. 31 at 2 p.m.
