This is day four of our coverage of the mass shooting at Bondi Beach.

Overnight, one of the alleged gunmen, Naveed Akram, reportedly woke from a 48-hour coma as more details come to light about the father and son accused terrorists.

According to the statement, he‘d had “limited contact with his family” since. His son Naveed is an Australian citizen, Indian police said.

This morning NSW Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon said police could follow in the footsteps of New Zealand and Canada by arming officers with powerful long arms after Sunday’s atrocity.

“Our job is to keep our police safe, but also the community safe. Traditionally, police have only carried handguns, as our engagement has traditionally been at close quarters,” he said on Sydney’s 2GB radio.

Meanwhile, the devastated parents of 10-year-old Matilda, the youngest victim of the Bondi Beach attack, have made heartbreaking statements in an emotional candlelight vigil for the victims.

The death toll remains at 15 with 22 victims still in hospital and 9 of them in critical condition. One of the alleged shooters, Sajid Akram, is also dead.
