New station taking shape at Mordialloc

The new elevated station at Mordialloc in Victoria is taking shape, with some of the prefabricated pieces being lifted into place on site.
A total of 30 prefabricated building modules will be delivered and installed, with eight arriving so far this year.
The modules vary in size, weighing between one tonne and up to 40 tonnes each. Once fully assembled, the station buildings will cover more than 750 square metres, roughly the size of three tennis courts.
Using a prefabricated modular approach allows construction to take place off-site. The Victorian Government said this reduces build time and minimises disruption for nearby residents.
Inside the station, porcelain tile features use natural tones that connect the interior with the surrounding landscape. The colours gradually fade towards the ceiling, helping to enhance the sense of space and natural light.
Located in the centre of Mordialloc, the new station will offer new facilities, all-abilities access, improved lighting, public spaces and upgraded landscaping.
Entrances at both ends of the station will make access easier and more convenient for commuters.
Construction is also continuing on the removal of level crossings at McDonald Street in Mordialloc and Station Street in Aspendale, with new rail bridges being built to carry trains over the road network.
Late last month, crews completed the installation of the L-beams at Station Street, Aspendale. Each beam weighs more than 120 tonnes and will form the U-trough that trains will run through.
Work has also begun on installing the 44 L-beams that will create the elevated rail section north of Mordialloc Creek.
