Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti Results LIVE UPDATES: SAD and AAP in close contest in Jalandhar’s Kartarpur

In Ferozepur, former gangster-turned-social worker Gurpreet Sekhon’s group has won two seats. His wife, Mandeep Kaur Sekhon, and Kuljeet Kaur Sekhon secured victories, winning one seat by over 8,500 votes and the other by 3,500 votes. Speaking to the media, Sekhon expressed gratitude to the people, saying their support elevated him from “floor to pinnacle” and he will always remain indebted to them. His win is significant as he had been arrested during the election campaign for allegedly intimidating voters but was later released following a High Court order.
In Ludhiana’s Khanna, the SAD staged a protest on the Khanna-Malerkotla road, claiming that their candidate Sonu Nagra was leading in the Libra zone but results were being withheld. Earlier, workers from BJP, SAD and Congress had blocked the Ferozepur-Fazilka highway in Jalalabad, alleging irregularities in allowing their agents to enter polling areas. The police intervened and cleared the blockade.
The elections delivered a setback for key AAP leaders in several villages. In Kurad village, home to MP Gurmeet Singh Meet Hair, AAP lost to SAD candidate Jaswinder Kaur. In Bharaj village of Sangrur, home to MLA Narinder Kaur Bharaj, AAP was defeated by Congress by a margin of 25 votes, despite viral campaign videos showing Bharaj warning leaders and accusing associates of drug-selling.
AAP also faced defeats in Jagdev Kalan, the village of former minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, and in Sandhwan village of Kotkapura, home to AAP MLA and Punjab Assembly Speaker Kultar Sandhwan. In Sandhwan, SAD candidate Mahinder Singh won by 171 votes. However, AAP secured a win in CM Bhagwant Mann’s village, Satoj, in the Sangrur district Block Committee elections.
These results highlight a mixed outcome for parties, with local leaders’ influence playing a decisive role in village-level contests across Punjab.
