Farmer killed by falling tree during bushfire in Western Australia

The blaze was burning at an emergency level but was later downgraded to watch and act.

As his car was travelling along Old Ongerup Road in nearby Mindarabin, the tree fell onto the vehicle and crushed the cab.

The farmer suffered critical injuries and died at the scene.

His death is not being treated as suspicious and police will prepare a report for the coroner. 

A fire was threatening the 59-year-old’s property when he jumped onto his front-end loader and tried to carve a fire break.

Mudie was killed when the fire engulfed his vehicle metres from the road on which he lived.
