Coronation Street will not air at its usual time tonight due to a schedule shake-up on ITV1. Fans can normally tune in to the drama in Weatherfield on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm, but Wednesday’s episode has been taken out of its usual slot.

However, viewers don’t have to worry about missing out as the episode aired last night (Tuesday) instead to make up for the missing episode. Coronation Street has been taken off the schedule to make space for ITV’s coverage of the EFL Carabao Cup.

Newcastle United face Fulham live from St James’ Park. Coverage of the quarter-final starts at 7:30pm on ITV1 ready for an 8:15pm kick-off time.

The schedule shake-up comes at a jam-packed time in Weatherfield in the lead up to Christmas. Recent episodes have been centered around the increasingly worrying relationship between Todd and Theo.

Actors Gareth Pierce and James Cartwright have taken centre stage in recent months as part of a hard-hitting storyline tacking the problem of domestic abuse in a same sex relationship.

Monday’s episode saw the abuse intensify in a powerful standalone broadcast. The entire episode was shown through the point of view of cameras such as Todd’s hidden camera, CCTV, dashcam, video doorbell and police bodycams.

A series of flashbacks showed what happened inside the flat on a terrifying night. Todd was trapped by his partner and locked in a room while he was battered.

As the abuse that Todd has been suffering intensified to dangerous levels, the powerful episode saw the police descend on the street after a report of a domestic incident.

To add to the show’s eerie feel, Coronation Street made the decision to remove the theme tune in between the ad-breaks. Viewers were quick to pick up on its absence and praised the unique feature.

In a huge twist, Todd and Theo were taken to the police station but in an frightening ironic turnaround, it was Theo who was treated as the victim.

He was given endless amounts of support from George and Christina, as well as the policemen. He was even offered leaflets to help with domestic abuse, when it should’ve been Todd receiving the support.

Back in the flat, Theo discovered a camera Todd had hidden in the living room. With Theo knowing his truth could be revealed, viewers were left on a cliffhanger, wondering if the truth will ever come out.

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
