“I still think they’re the best team in the world,” Owen confident in Liverpool return

Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen remains optimistic about the Reds’ prospects this season and beyond, despite a poor start to their Premier League title defence.

Owen believes Liverpool will improve as summer signings settle into the squad, insisting the quality and depth of the squad make them serious contenders for years to come.

“The confidence to keep a clean sheet and win another game in Europe playing a difficult game… this is a really good team,” Owen initially said.

“If everyone plays at their absolute peak, I still think Liverpool are the best team in the world. Yes.”

“They’re obviously not showing it regularly, but they won the league at a slow pace last year and they’ve signed exceptional players, they’ve invested for the future and these players are going to be good.”

“This is a team that will not disappear and will be title contenders for the next five years.”

“Even though they’re not playing very well, you still have to be afraid of Liverpool. They’ve beaten Arsenal and Aston Villa, they’re in Europe and they’re playing well in the Champions League.”

“Everyone is talking about this disaster, but they are in the top six and flying high in the Champions League. It is not a disaster yet and there is still a lot to do, and these new signings will only make it better,” the former England striker concluded. /Telegraph/
