ERIE, Pa. – On Saturday the Gannon men’s basketball team sent record-keepers scurrying after forcing Saginaw Valley State into 38 turnovers. It was but a precursor to what occurred on Tuesday. The 15th-ranked Golden Knights pressed Kutztown until the Golden Bears had turned the ball over 48 times.
The end result was a 106-48 victory for Gannon. The 48 turnovers is a school record and while the NCAA doesn’t officially keep a record for most turnovers in a game it is reported to be one of the highest totals ever in a Division II game. The school record had been 41 forced against Buffalo State in the 1979-80 season.
That wasn’t the only record to tumble. With Kutztown sitting back in a zone Gannon fired up a school-record 45 3-pointers, making 11. That’s one more than the previous record of 44 set just two years ago against Pitt-Johnstown. Gannon came up one shy of the school record of 26 steals in a game, set against Dominican in the 1979-80 season. The Golden Knights had 25 steals. Almost as impressive, Gannon committed just 11 turnovers.
Gannon improved to 8-1 with the lopsided victory and is 2-0 in PSAC action. Kutztown is now 2-3 and 0-1 in conference play.
All 14 Golden Knights Enter the Scoring Column
Amazingly just four players scored in double figures as balance was the theme of the day. Pace Prosser (Berlin, Pa./Berlin Brothersvalley) led the way with 15 points, with Lucas Sekasi (Washington, DC/Jackson-Reed) adding 11 and Layne Sarver (New Madison, Ohio/Tri-Village) and Mason Kemp (Shawnee, Kan./Mill Valley) 10 apiece. All 14 Golden Knights dented scored with the bench accounting for 59 points.
Thievery at its Finest
Gannon totaled 25 steals among the 48 caused turnovers. Prosser and Mackenzie Morgan (Sydney, Australia/Marist Catholic College North Shore) led the thievery with five steals while twin brother Lucas Morgan (Sydney, Australia/Marist Catholic College North Shore) and Jaden Calloway (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Hartley) added four steals apiece. Gannon came into the game ranked sixth in Division II with 13.4 steals per game and is second in turnovers forced at 23.62.
Keeping Pace
Pace Prosser (Berlin, Pa./Berlin Brothersvalley) continues to stuff the scoresheet. The 6-foot-2 sophomore guard not only led Gannon with 15 points, but he dished out eight assists, had five rebounds and five steals.
Run after Run after Run
The game started innocently enough with Kutztown taking an 11-8 lead. Gannon took control by following a with a 20-0 run that featured 10 Kutztown turnovers. The Golden Bears went over eight minutes without a point. They actually scored the next six points to cut the deficit to 11 points but the Golden Knights responded with an 11-0 run to end the half. It was 46-21at intermission with Gannon outscoring KU 26-0 on turnovers. The second half featured a 19-0 run as the Golden Knights held Kutztown scoreless for five minutes.
Make that Five Wins in a Row and Four over the Century Mark
The Golden Knights have now run off five straight wins since dropping their lone game of the season to Lake Superior State. In addition, the 106 points was a season-high and marked the fourth time with 100-or-more points. They’ve reached 90 points in four other games. Gannon came in ranked fourth in Division II in scoring offense at 96.9 ppg.
Tough Trip Awaits
Gannon’s five-game winning streak will be put to the test this weekend as the Golden Knights conclude the 2025 portion of their schedule with a two-game swing to southeastern Pennsylvania. On Saturday they play at West Chester in a battle of the two preseason favorites in the Eastern and Western Divisions. On Sunday the Golden Knights make the short trip from West Chester to play at Millersville. The Marauders were picked third in the
PSAC East.
