Investigation launched following fatal accident in Nottinghamshire

The Rail Accident Investigation Branch has launched an investigation following an accident that occurred in Nottinghamshire between Lowdham and Burton Joyce stations.

Last month, on the 26th of November, a train was travelling around 60 mph through the Chestnut Grove footpath crossing when an accident occurred.

At around 19:05, the train was travelling across the crossing when it struck a young person, who was fatally injured.

The crossing features signage and gates on either side of the pedestrian-accessible crossing.

The investigation will assess what may have influenced the actions of those involved, taking into account prior incidents.

They will also assess risk management and other underlying factors.
