Wilfried Nancy Explains X Profile Picture

Wilfried Nancy has moved to clarify his decision to make his X account private after it became an unexpected talking point during an already difficult period for the Celtic manager.
The account, widely believed to belong to Nancy, was locked down just 24 hours after a cryptic post went viral among supporters and the wider Scottish football audience.
The account in question, operating under the handle @wilfriednancy, has been active since 2011.
It has previously been acknowledged by both Columbus Crew and CF Montréal, adding weight to the belief that it is Nancy’s personal profile. Until this week, it had largely escaped attention since his move to Glasgow.
That changed after the posting of a Venn diagram highlighting the overlap between “Things that matter” and “Things you can control,” accompanied by the caption “What you should focus on.”
The image spread quickly, with thousands of new followers arriving overnight amid mounting pressure on Nancy following a winless start to his Celtic tenure.
Within hours, the account was made private, preventing new followers from viewing its content unless approved.
The timing raised eyebrows, given Celtic’s recent results and growing scrutiny of the new manager, but Nancy has now addressed the situation directly, insisting there was no hidden message behind the change.
He said: (BBC Sport), “My wife was not happy and to be honest, believe me or not, the profile was about Columbus. So my ex-picture was about Columbus, me being in the local room of Columbus.
“So I just wanted to change what I have on my WhatsApp. Simple as that. So it was not a message or something. I don’t want to create a battle.
“So simple as that. So I did it because my picture was about looking upstairs in the local room of Columbus.
“So I just wanted to change what I have in my WhatsApp. Simple as that.”
Nancy’s explanation attempts to pour cold water on speculation that the post or subsequent lockdown of the account was directed at critics or supporters questioning his early decisions at Celtic.
By framing the change as a personal matter linked to an old profile picture, the manager was keen to stress that no wider meaning should be attached to it.
That clarification comes at a time when even minor details around the club are being magnified. F
our defeats from four matches have left Nancy under intense pressure, and with results failing to improve, attention has drifted beyond the pitch to tactics, selections, and now social media activity. In that context, the viral nature of the post felt emblematic of how quickly narratives can spiral.
The speed with which the account gained followers also highlighted the level of scrutiny now surrounding the Celtic manager.
What had previously been a low-profile personal account suddenly became a focal point, drawing in supporters, rivals, and media figures alike, before being closed off again just as quickly.

For Nancy, the focus now returns to football matters. While the X account episode adds another layer to a chaotic start, it is results on the pitch that will ultimately shape his standing.
With patience already in short supply, any distraction, however unintended, only underlines how exposed the Celtic manager currently is as he looks to steady his tenure and change the direction of the season.
