Sherrock getting career back on track after health struggles and Menzies split

FALLON SHERROCK says she is slowly getting her career back on track after she considered taking a break for health reasons.
For the sixth time in seven Christmases, the trailblazing Queen of the Palace will make an appearance at Ally Pally.

Over the summer, she revealed there were times she struggled to maintain high energy levels and “stamina” following an unspecified illness.
And it was suggested she may have to scale back competitive appearances in 2026.
The 30-year-old became ill after the birth of her son Rory in 2014 and has suffered from kidney problems in the past for which she has taken medication.
But at the end of a year in which she split from boyfriend Cameron Menzies, the former hairdresser says life is good ahead of a return to the scene of her greatest exploits.

Single mum Sherrock said: “Life isn’t too bad. I’ve had some positive news recently.
“I’m not going to be struggling next year. Hopefully I can just push forward now and have the game that I was having five or six years ago.
“I feel 100% better than what I did. I’m not going to jinx anything.
“I definitely feel a bit more energetic and you know, more positive in myself and less tired.

“My darts are slowly getting back to normal, so I have nothing to be unhappy about. I feel very happy at the moment.
“My game is there so I feel a little bit more confident going into the Worlds.”

There are five women in the 128-player draw but everyone is waiting to see how the standout female thrower, Beau Greaves, performs on Friday evening against Daryl Gurney.
Nobody is really talking about Sherrock, who is pitted against St Helens’ Dave Chisnall, six years after she historically beat two men at world level.
In preparation, she has taken off a month off the exhibition circuit and spent her time practising with a pal in Stoke for several hours a day.
For four years on the trot, between 2002 and 2005, she was defeated in the first round and memories of her previous history-making, record-breaking triumphs have started to fade away.
But Sherrock is happy that Greaves is getting all the press, saying: “I’ve always said I’d rather be under the radar.
“I’ve always been that person to just kind of slip through the net and then do something special and not expected.
“I’d rather be under the radar and kind of create a shock than for it to be expected.
“I’ve never been that person to be kind of like the face of women’s darts. For me that was a lot of pressure.
“Beau’s exceeding and doing everything. I’m like, yeah, okay, all eyes on her. I’m just gonna go enjoy myself and relax.
“It’s frustrating because I never thought I’ve played that badly since (2019). I believe you need a little bit of luck as well.
“You just need someone to falter or you hit the big scores at the right time.
“Hopefully this year with all the practice and stuff leading up to that, I’m going to do well. Hopefully I can get that win again.
“Because it’s such a great feeling even just to win at Ally Pally and especially hearing all the audience.
“With all the experience I’ve had over the past couple of years, once I get my game sorted, I think I could be better than what I was.
“Over the years I’ve had wins, had defeats, stuff like that. I know how to deal more with pressure situations now.”
