The Golden Eagles Report: All Shaka Smart has done at Marquette is win – until this year. He’s being called the Dabo Swinney of CBB because he’s not taking in transfers all that often. That’s of course not a fair comparison as Dabo has won multiple national championships while Shaka’s best run was two schools and 15 years ago.

Anyway, Chase Ross is who everyone expected with the departure of Kam Ross.
Nigel Jones is having a nice start to his career, while Ben Gold hasn’t made the leap many were hoping for as a senior, at least offensively with his shooting numbers down a bit.
WHAT’S AT STAKE
While the Big East isn’t getting a lot of attention for the top teams outside of UConn and St. John’s it seems clear that the bottom of the league, although crowded at the moment, is better than it’s been in quite some time. Georgetown has eight straight overall to Marquette going back to the start of the 2021 BET title.
You have to go back even further for the last Hoyas win in Milwaukee, which came in March of 2019. James Akinjo and Mac McClung combined for 48 that afternoon.

But back to the present, this Georgetown team has two very winnable games to open up conference play and it starts tonight. Which Hoyas team will show up?
The team we saw vs Maryland and Clemson or the one that opened up slow in Florida and narrowly escaped Saint Peter’s?
