Leonardo DiCaprio Says He Hasn’t Rewatched His Most Famous Film In A Long Time (UPDATE)

Near, far ― wherever you are ― you need to know that Leonardo DiCaprio hasn’t rewatched “Titanic” any time recently.

The acting icon made the admission during a sit-down with former co-star Jennifer Lawrence for Variety’s acclaimed “Actors on Actors” series.

“Have you rewatched ‘Titanic’?” Lawrence asks DiCaprio during the conversation, which was published Wednesday morning.

In the site’s transcript of their conversation, DiCaprio is quoted as responding, “No. I haven’t seen it before” ― a potentially shocking admission.

However, in video of the interview published later on Wednesday afternoon, the star’s words are less clear, and he seems to be saying. “No, I haven’t seen it in forever.”

Variety did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the quote. But either way, Lawrence was quick to voice that the film holds up.

“Oh, you should. I bet you could watch it now, it’s so good,” Lawrence said.

DiCaprio said that he doesn’t “really watch” his films, before asking the “Hunger Games” star if she did.

“No. I’ve never made something like ‘Titanic.’ If I did, I would watch it,” she answered. “Once I was really drunk, I put on ‘American Hustle.’ I was like, ‘I wonder if I’m good at acting?’ I put it on, and I don’t remember what the answer is.”

DiCaprio almost didn’t land the role of Jack Dawson in “Titanic,” as director James Cameron previously shared that the actor didn’t want to read for the part during auditions.

Cameron told GQ in 2022 that after an initial meeting with DiCaprio, he brought him in a few days later for the next steps.

“I had the camera set up to record the video,” Cameron said, explaining that the actor didn’t know he was going to test. “He thought it was another meeting to meet Kate.”

Cameron recalled, “So I said, ‘Okay, we’ll just go in the next room, and we’ll run some lines and I’ll video it.’ And he said, ‘You mean, I’m reading?’ I said, ‘Yeah.’ He said, “Oh, I don’t read.’ I shook his hand and said, ‘Thanks for coming by.’”

DiCaprio was stunned and reportedly told Cameron, “‘Wait, wait, wait. If I don’t read, I don’t get the part? Just like that?’”

“Oh, yeah ― come on,” the “Avatar” director said he answered. “This is a giant movie that is going to take two years of my life, and you’ll be gone doing five other things while I’m doing post-production. So, I’m not going to fuck it up by making the wrong decision in casting. So, you’re going to read, or you’re not going to get the part.’”

DiCaprio acquiesced, and the rest is history.

“He comes in, and he’s like every ounce of his entire being is just so negative — right up until I said, ‘Action.’ Then he turned into Jack,” Cameron said. “Kate just lit up, and they played the scene. Dark clouds had opened up, and a ray of sun came down and lit up Jack. I’m like, ‘All right. He’s the guy.’”
