Dexter: Resurrection Gets the Big Update Fans Have Been Waiting To Hear

Michael C. Hall’s Dexter Morgan returned in 2025 in the newest iteration of the Dexter franchise. Dexter: Resurrection premiered on July 11 on Paramount+ with Showtime and was renewed for its second season in October.

Dexter fans, just in time for the holiday season, are getting some great news. Per ScreenRant, via an interview with Love It Film, Dexter: Resurrection showrunner Clyde Phillips said Season 2 will begin filming in the spring of 2026 with a fall 2026 premiere.

“You talk about making the show starting in January and airing it in July. That’s not unusual,” Phillips said. “And we’re going to do it again this year. We’re going to start shooting in April, and we’re going to air in October,” he confirmed.

Dexter: Resurrection concluded its first season in September and featured the return of Hall as his iconic Dexter character. The series takes place about three years after Dexter was thought to have been killed in Dexter: New Blood. While Phillips has confirmed a timeline for the filming and release of Dexter: Resurrection, an exact premiere date for Season 2 has not yet been announced.

Philips also confirmed that Season 2 will consist of 10 episodes, which is the same as the first season. Marcos Siega will direct six episodes. He is also an executive producer on the series. Another, yet-to-be-announced director will be in charge of the remaining four episodes of Season 2.

“We shoot what’s called ‘block shooting,’” Phillips explained. “We shoot two episodes at a time so that you have the same location and all of that stuff. Then another director comes in and does two. Marcos [Siega] does six of them, and another director will do four of them. We’re negotiating with her. The deal hasn’t closed, so I can’t say her name. But we’ll get her,” he said.

The first season of Dexter: Resurrection boasts a nearly-perfect 95% Rotten Tomatoes critic score and a 90% audience rating. The series, in addition to Hall, also stars Uma Thurman, Jack Alcott, David Zayas, Kadia Saraf, Emilia Suárez, Peter Dinklage, James Remar, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, and Dominic Fumusa. Eric Stonestreet, David Dastmalchian, John Lithgow, and Krysten Ritter guest-starred in the first season.

In October 2025, Hall announced that Dexter: Resurrection would be returning. “Hey, what’s up. It’s Michael C. Hall here. First of all, I just want to thank all the fans for tuning in and taking the Dexter: Resurrection ride with us this summer. Hope you enjoyed it,” he said. Hall added, “And secondly, we’ve been greenlit for another season. There’s more to come. The writer’s room is assembling now, and details will be forthcoming. But I wanted to be the first to let you know the story continues.”

The original Dexter series premiered in 2006 and has spawned several spinoffs, including Resurrection, New Blood, and Original Sin. The first season of Dexter: Resurrection is streaming on Paramount+ with Showtime. Season 2 will premiere in October 2026.
