Britain is bracing for six inches of snow within the next 72 hours – with 12 counties spanning all four home nations in the firing line. A staggering 5.9 inches of the white stuff is predicted to blanket parts of Scotland and North Wales, alongside England and Northern Ireland, this week.
Weather maps and charts from WX Charts, utilising Met Desk data, pinpoint Friday, December 19 as the day the snow will strike. The complete roster of 12 UK counties most likely to be walloped by snow on December 19 features Highland and Argyll and Bute.
The list also encompasses Dumfries and Galloway, Cumbria, Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Cheshire, Gwynedd and Conwy, plus Powys and Antrim, reports Birmingham Live.

BBC Weather forecasters warn there’s greater uncertainty in predictions beyond Christmas and into the opening week of the New Year.
“There is most likely to be a continuation of high pressure presence near the UK, but its exact position will be crucial to the outcome,” the BBC states.
“There are signs that it may shift and become centred between the UK and Iceland, at least for a while. This should result in some relatively dry and calm periods. Seasonably colder conditions are most probable, with frost and fog still likely at times.
“There is a possibility that high pressure could slip farther south or east, especially later in the period, which would mean a return to milder and more unsettled weather for most areas, but that sort of development has rather low confidence.”
The Beeb continues: “In Tuesday’s update, we will see if the longer range models come into any better agreement regarding high pressure developments later in December and into January.”

It comes after we reported how a White Christmas could be on the horizon as weather charts indicate snow could fall across multiple areas of the UK on December 25. Echoing the infamous ‘Beast from the East’, the GFS weather model predicts snow striking the UK from that direction during the evening of Christmas Day.
Areas that could be affected include East Anglia, the Pennines and even the south-east (possibly including London). By 6am on Boxing Day, weather charts display snow descending along England’s east coast alongside the Midlands, across the Peak District, throughout the Pennines, and into Gloucestershire.
Scattered flurries might tumble from Bristol in the west to Lincolnshire in the East around midday on Boxing Day.
