Last year the budget supermarket massively reduced the price of several Christmas staples, including potatoes, carrots, parsnips and brussels sprouts to 8p each.

This major reduction sparked what is known as the “Christmas veg price war“, and shops like Asda, Aldi and Lidl all locked horns to slash prices of vegetables in the build up to Christmas.

The shops have all followed suit this year and are all offering veg essential on a roast dinner for 8p again.

This year, Lidl has taken the battle one step further by price matching Aldi on the cost of a whole Christmas dinner for eight people.

The saga began when Lidl announced in November that it sold ingredients for “the cheapest Christmas dinner” at just £11.85, less than £1.50 per person.

Rival supermarket chain Aldi then hit back saying its price could not be beaten, and announced their total for essential ingredients tallied to £11.75, making it just 10p cheaper.

Then, with just 10 days left until the big day with many families having already done their food shop for the big day, Lidl has snapped back at Aldi.

The German supermarket giant has announced it has dropped their cheapest roast dinner by just 10p in order to price match Aldi in a last attempt to win the battle of the big day dinner.

Despite the tension it has caused the remarkable deals from both supermarkets could save you hundreds on the big day.

Both deals include the turkey, potatoes, three types of vegetables, gravy, stuffing and Yorkshire puddings.
