Times celebrity children have dug through their famous mums’ designer wardrobes

Everyone’s had that one item they loved stealing from their mum’s wardrobe when they were growing up – and celebrity children are no exception.
Instead of a closet, children of celebrities often get to pick from an archive of designer dresses worn by their mothers on red carpets.
Here are some of the best times Hollywood offspring have worn their famous mum’s clothes – drag the slider across for a then-and-now comparison.

Brooke Shields, 60, first wore this red strapless gown to the 1998 Golden Globes.
Nearly 20 years later, she let her daughter Rowan Francis Henchy, 22, wear it to her prom.
Shields posted about the “proud” moment to her Instagram, writing: “I thought it was a special night when I was nominated for a Golden Globe and wore this dress in 1998, but nothing could have prepared me to see my daughter wearing it to her prom!”
Francis was 18 at the time.

Angelina Jolie, 50, first wore this silver Elie Saab Gown to the 2014 Oscars.
The dress reappeared on the red carpet when her daughter Zahara Jolie, 20, wore it to the Eternals premiere in 2021.
All of Jolie’s children joined her that night, each wearing a vintage outfit or something upcycled from the actress’ closet, according to Entertainment Tonight.
Shiloh Jolie, 19, also wore a repurposed version of one of her mum’s dresses, a camel-toned Gabriela Hearst design, tailored to give it an asymmetrical hem.

Carys Zeta Douglas is the spitting image of her mum Catherine Zeta-Jones.
Their resemblance was uncanny when she wore one of her mum’s vintage dresses to the PAC NYC Icons of Culture Gala.
Zeta-Jones, 56, had previously worn the dress more than 20 years ago at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony in March 2005.
Zeta Douglas accessorised the dress in a slightly different fashion to her mum, opting for pointed-toe pumps instead of strappy beaded heels and swapping silver jewellery for gold.
The women both held black clutches but again opted for different sizes and shapes.

Kaia Gerber, 24, stole her mum’s face, body and dress
The model wore a recreation of the iconic Hervé Leger dress her mother, Cindy Crawford, 59, wore to the Academy Awards in 1993.
Gerber wore the nearly-exact replica gown to the premiere of her film Shell at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival.
She even curled her hair to pay homage to the original look.

Jessica Alba gives her daughters every opportunity to go through her wardrobe.
Honour and Haven joined her at the 2024 premiere for her Netflix film Trigger Warning, wearing two of her old looks.
Haven, 14, wore the same gown Alba chose for the 2010 Comic Con.
Honor, 17, opted for a Prada gown Alba wore at the London premiere of Valentine’s Day in 2007.

After the event, Alba took to Instagram to post about the adorable moment.
“Throwing it back all the way to ’07 and ’10 in the sweetest way ever,” she captioned the post.
“I loooove seeing my girls wear some of my archived pieces and adding their own touch.”

Apple Martin is a spitting image of her mother Gwyneth Paltrow most days, but in her archival Calvin Klein gown, the pair look identical.
Martin wore the gown to the New York premiere of Marty Supreme, joined by her mum.
The dress was first worn by Paltrow at the New York premiere of Emma in 1996.
Not only did she wear the same dress, but her hair also matched the exact look her mother wore on the day.
Salma Hayek and Valentina Paloma Pinault

When Salma Hayek, 59, took her daughter, Valentina Paloma Pinault, 18, as her plus one to the 2023 Oscars, the invitation didn’t stop at the event.
The actress’s stylist dove into her archives and pulled a dress from the 90s to give to Pinault for the night.
Pinault wore the (now) vintage Isaac Mizrahi dress to the ceremony.
Hayek first wore the dress to the Fire and Ice ball in 1997.
