Coronation Street’s Claire Sweeney confirms Cassie’s role in deadly Corriedale special

Cassie Plummer actor Claire Sweeney has explained the Coronation Street character’s role in the upcoming Emmerdale crossover special Corriedale.
The ITV soaps will collide in a special episode, the events of which will have long-lasting effects on both programmes.
We have been given a glimpse of the carnage that will take place as a serious multi-car collision leaves several lives in the balance, with characters from both soaps desperately trying to help those impacted.
Speaking ahead of the show airing, Claire has said she is “honoured” to be part of the star-studded cast taking part.
“It’s wonderful to be a part of this, I’m absolutely thrilled,” she told the Liverpool Echo at the premiere of Corriedale.

“I feel really honoured to be here today talking about it, to have experienced it, going over to Emmerdale filming there, the night shoots in the field – it was all a joy.”
Sharing how she fits into the unique episode, she revealed: “I am going to Debbie and Ronnie’s wedding, but it’s the trials and tribulations of getting home from the wedding, and lots of drama between Steve and Tracy.”
Other stars have teased how their characters will be introduced into Corriedale, with Todd Grimshaw actor Gareth Pierce telling Digital Spy how his ordeal with Theo Silverton will continue to unfold.
“Todd and Theo are one of the strands from Corrie running into the Corriedale episode,” Gareth explained. “So we’re jumping ahead two weeks, really, from what went out [on Monday].
“Todd obviously is already in a very volatile, dangerous place. Most of the other storylines in Emmerdale and Corrie are reaching peaks in this episode. And obviously it’s trumped then by a massive crisis, because worlds collide and there’s a crash.”

He continued: “Todd’s definitely in jeopardy! He’s in jeopardy going into this episode anyway. I think most characters involved in the crash are probably injured to some extent. So without giving too much away, yes, he is potentially in peril.
“But happily he was knocked unconscious initially, so that was an easier bit of acting for me!”
Elsewhere, Shona Platt actor Julia Goulding teased details of her scene with Emma Atkins’ Charity Dingle.
“When I read scenes [and saw] that I’d get to be working with Emma, obviously Charity is such an iconic character. I was like: ‘Yeah!’,” she told Digital Spy.
“When the cameras weren’t rolling, we were just nattering the whole time! It was lovely.”

Of working together, Emma added: “With Julia and Jack [P Shepherd, who plays David], I got to watch them both pull off some quite intense emotional scenes.
“To see them in that capacity felt quite humbling and I was blown away by their performances.
“It was like a twin storyline, in terms of both characters being heavily pregnant. I took [Shona] under my wing for all of five seconds! I remember I kept messing up that scene, though! She forgave me!”
Corriedale airs at 8pm on ITV1 on 5 January. Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX. Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
