South Tyneside school LIVE: Police and paramedics swarm area as pupil tragically dies

A student has sadly died at St Wilfrid’s RC College in South Shields this morning.

Emergency services were called to the school shortly after 9.15am. Police, the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) and the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) attended the scene.

NEAS dispatched two ambulance crews, one critical care specialist paramedic, one clinical team leader to the scene.

Catherine Lennox, headteacher at St Wilfrid’s RC College, later confirmed that a student had sadly died at the school.

The school will remain closed for the rest of the day and an update regarding arrangements for tomorrow will follow in due course.
