Corriedale promises the most explosive scenes the ITV soaps have ever seen in a one-off special crossover episode. The stars of Coronation Street and Emmerdale were out in full force to mark the premiere of the first of its kind episode.

Huge names from both soaps including Corrie residents Carla Connor (Alison King), David Platt (Jack P Shepherd), Ken Barlow (William Roache) and Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) and Emmerdale villagers including Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller), Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley), Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) and Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) have all been confirmed for the crossover.

One plot point that has been kept very quiet until now is the return of villain John Sugden, played by Oliver Farnworth. John went on the run months ago after trying to kill himself and Aaron and frame Robert and see to the end of their reunion for good.

There’s trouble ahead for some huge names on Coronation Street and Emmerdale

He managed to escape – but now John is back, with a key role in the upcoming crossover episode. Oliver has had roles in Corrie, where he played Andy Carver, and now Emmerdale – but a more “dishevelled” John is back and trouble is in store for Robert and Aaron.

“I knew my character was going on the run but I knew what my character was coming back to. I’m super excited. I’ve been in Coronation Street in the past, I’ve been in Emmerdale and now I get to do the mash-up. It’s a privilege to be part of,” he says.

“Love and jealousy brings him back. He’s got far less to lose. You may see a more dishevelled and unhinged version of John.” The return no doubt spells bad news for Robert and Aaron, who have managed to fend off Robert’s prison ex Kev.

For anyone thinking they know how the episode plays out, the stars have warned there’s huge twists ahead. “It’s two of the best soaps in the country colliding with big consequences and the end of some of the biggest storylines of the year … It takes you on a different journey of what’s going to happen,” Danny tells us.

Comparing it to iconic Hotten Bypass crash, which was directed by Duncan Foster, who has also directed this Corriedale stunt, Ryan and Danny warned there is even more drama ahead.

Of what’s to come for the fan favourite pair, Danny says: “Into next year, there will be a lot of bleed over from this. The consequences of what happens towards the end of it – and as usual, lie their way out of stuff!”

Over on the Cobbles, Vicky Myers and Sydney Martin, who play mum and daughter Lisa and Betsy Swain, were thrilled to be working with the stars of Emmerdale – and Danny in particular.

“I’ve known Danny for quite a while and working with him and seeing him character was great,” Vicky says of collaborating with the stars of the Dales. Vicky and Danny were the first two stars to be announced for the crossover episode several weeks ago.

Despite the soaps being ‘rivals’ on ITV, Abi Franklin star Sally Carman-Duttine and Carl Webster actor Jonathan Howard insists there was no “competition” between the two sides.

“Everyone was there to collaborate. I’ve been on Corrie for 10 months and I was saying, we never really get to go out but we had six weeks of night shoots and it was incredible,” Jonathan says.

For Jonathan, he was completely starstruck after finally getting to meet Cain Dingle, played by Jeff Hordley. “I’ve always liked Cain’s character so when he said his name was Jeff, I was shocked!” he quips.

Theo Silverton – played by James Cartwright – is at the centre of a dark storyline following his abusive behaviour with partner Todd Grimshaw and he is excited to be at the forefront of another dramatic episode.

“Expect the unexpected! Anything can happen! It’s exciting and unknown. They do what soap does best – explosive!” he tells us.

Whatever happens on the Hotten country road in a few weeks time, there’s no doubt lives will be forever changed.
