Exclusive: Corriedale spoilers shared as Shona meets Charity in “intense” scenes

Coronation Street and Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Coronation Street and Emmerdale have released an amazing new spoiler picture from Corriedale this week, showing Shona Platt and Charity Dingle coming face-to-face amid a terrifying time. Now Julia Goulding and Emma Atkins, who play the pregnant soap ladies, have shared some exciting fresh details about what to expect.

Corriedale sees the worlds of Coronation Street and Emmerdale crossover for the first time when the hour-long special event airs on Monday 5 January. The drama follows a multi-vehicle crash which takes place on a country road, leaving characters from both soaps in jeopardy.

Charity supports Shona in an emotional scene at the Hotten General Hospital, as seen in a first-look photo released on Monday (December 15). And it sounds like the two cast members involved couldn’t wait to work together…

Speaking exclusively to us at the red carpet premiere for Corriedale, Julia explained: “When I read scenes [and saw] that I’d get to be working with Emma, obviously Charity is such an iconic character. I was like: ‘Yeah!’

“When the cameras weren’t rolling, we were just nattering the whole time! It was lovely.”

Sharing her perspective, Emma told us: “With Julia and Jack [P Shepherd, who plays David], I got to watch them both pull off some quite intense emotional scenes.

“To see them in that capacity felt quite humbling and I was blown away by their performances.

“It was like a twin storyline, in terms of both characters being heavily pregnant. I took [Shona] under my wing for all of five seconds! I remember I kept messing up that scene, though! She forgave me!”

The crash takes place near the town of Hotten, which has been part of the Emmerdale universe over the years. Corrie characters find themselves caught up in chaos while travelling back from Debbie Webster and Ronnie Bailey’s wedding.

Julia added: “There was lots of noise! I did my own stunt, which was really fun. Obviously we had a fantastic stunt team. There’s quite a lot going on with fire and things!

“So I was in the minibus coming back from the wedding and I was all harnessed up. I felt like Lara Croft. I love doing stuff like that. Working on Corrie is wonderful, but it tells the tales of people that live in a back street in Salford. So when we get to actually do stuff like the big stunts, it’s just such a privilege to be involved in. I love it.”

Corriedale airs on Monday 5 January at 8pm on ITV1 and will stream on ITVX.
