Hugh Jackman and Bryan Cranston Investigate Woolly Murders in First ‘The Sheep Detectives’ Trailer

It’s been a big week for Hugh Jackman fans, who just yesterday were treated to the first images of the Wolverine star as Robin Hood in his new historical epic. Now, Jackman is back to lead the first trailer for The Sheep Detectives, previously titled Three Bags Full: The Sheep Detectives, alongside Breaking Bad veteran Bryan Cranston. The film follows a shepherd who reads detective novels to his beloved sheep every night, assuming they can’t understand him. But when chaos erupts on the farm one night, the sheep realize they’re forced to become detectives and investigate clues about human suspects.
Kyla Balda (Minions: The Rise of Gru) is directing The Sheep Detectives, which will premiere exclusively in theaters on May 8, 2026. Craig Mazin, famous for his work writing The Last of Us, penned the script for the film. In addition to Jackman and Cranston, The Sheep Detectives features one of the biggest casts of all time, including Nicholas Braun, Nicholas Galitzine, Molly Gordon, Hong Chau, Emma Thompson, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Regina Hall, Chris O’Dowd, Patrick Stewart, Bella Ramsey, Brett Goldstein, and Rhys Darby. The film is billed as a family-friendly mystery that’s sure to draw interest from all ages.
2026 is expected to be a busy year for Hugh Jackman, who will kick things off with The Sheep Detectives in May. He’ll follow that with The Death of Robin Hood, which is lacking an official release date but expected to premiere sometime near the end of next year. He’s also expected to reprise his role as Wolverine in Avengers: Doomsday, despite his lack of a chair during the casting announcement earlier this year. Chris Evans didn’t get one either, and now he’s the center of the first Doomsday trailer.
When Does Hugh Jackman’s Next Movie Come Out?
While Hugh Jackman has a lot to look forward to in 2026, he has another movie coming out before the end of the year that’s sure to turn heads. Jackman will star opposite Kate Hudson (Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery) in Song Sung Blue, which tells the story of a husband and wife who double as a Neil Diamond tribute band in Milwaukee. The film will debut only in theaters on Christmas Day, and it was written and directed by Craig Brewer.
