Raptors trade rumor lands 6-foot-11 center for former 1st-round pick

The Toronto Raptors are right near the luxury tax line.
Lucky for them, they have one trade candidate who could potentially help them get out of that salary cap situation.
HoopsHype writer Mike Scotto reports that the Raptors will look to trade former first-round pick Ochai Agbaji in order to evade the tax.
His report indicates that Phoenix Suns center Nick Richards could come back to Toronto in such a deal.
“Meanwhile, rival NBA executives have cited Toronto’s Ochai Agbaji as the likely trade candidate to help the Raptors duck below the tax,” Scotto writes. “In fact, there’s been exploratory discussions between the Raptors and Suns regarding Agbaji and second-round draft pick compensation for Richards, league sources told HoopsHype.”

This move would have the potential to help the Raptors’ depth chart, too.
When everyone is healthy, Agbaji has almost no role to play (although with RJ Barrett out, he does get decent court time right now).
The Raptors have dealt with a frequently injured Jakob Poeltl this season at center. Sandro Mamukelashvili isn’t a bad backup, but Richards would provide a different sort of player for head coach Darko Rajakovic to turn to at times.
It’d mostly be about the finances, of course, but any incremental improvements would also be good for a solid Toronto team that is continuing to try and find its way.
