50 DAYS TO GO UNTIL THE MILANO-CORTINA OLYMPIC GAMES
Next year, the sporting calendar will feature the world’s most important winter multi-sport event: the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympic Games. Find out all the details here about this celebration of winter sports, which begins on February 6.
There are only 50 days left until the eyes of the world turn to northern Italy to witness the XXV Winter Olympic Games.
Italy is hosting this Olympic event for the third time in history, having previously done so in Cortina d’Ampezzo in 1956 and Turin in 2006.
More than 3,500 athletes from a total of 93 countries are expected to participate in this edition, competing for the 195 medals available to those who reach the Olympic podium.
The competitions will be distributed geographically between large cities and alpine environments. In total, there will be 15 sports venues to host the 16 disciplines that will be part of this celebration.
The sports will be:
- Alpine skiing
- Biathlon
- Bobsleigh
- Cross-country skiing
- Curling
- Figure skating
- Freestyle skiing (freestyle)
- Ice hockey
- Luge
- Nordic combined
- Speed skating
- Short track speed skating
- Skeleton
- Ski jumping
- Snowboarding
- Ski Mountaineering
For the first time, Ski Mountaineering, will be part of the Olympic program, making its debut in Milan-Cortina.
The American continent and Panam Sports will be represented by 13 countries: the United States, Canada, Mexico, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Haiti, and Trinidad and Tobago. This is for now, as there are still athletes from Peru and Jamaica who are seeking qualification for the winter event and could join the already confirmed delegations.
The sports will take place at the following venues in northern Italy:
San Siro Stadium
PalaItalia Santa Giulia (Ice hockey)
Mediolanum Forum (Figure skating and short track)
Rho Fiera Milano (Hockey and other ice events)
Speed skating stadium
Curling center
Sliding center (bobsleigh, skeleton, and luge)
Alpine ski resorts.
Anterselva/Antholz – Biathlon.
Bormio – Alpine skiing and ski mountaineering.
Livigno – Snowboarding and freestyle skiing.
Predazzo – Ski jumping and Nordic combined.
Tesero – Cross-country skiing and Nordic combined.
The Opening Ceremony will take place on February 6 at the San Siro Stadium in Milan, the famous venue where AC Milan and Inter Milan play. World music star Mariah Carey has already been confirmed for this major event.
The Closing Ceremony will take place at the Arena di Verona, an ancient Roman amphitheater and World Heritage Site, on February 22, bringing the 20th edition of the Winter Olympics to a close.
Mariah Carey has been confirmed as the main artist for the Opening Ceremony of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.
