Arsenal legend Thierry Henry joins elite club as he’s set to be honoured with special award at BBC SPOTY

ARSENAL legend Thierry Henry will be honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award at Thursday’s BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards.
Henry is being awarded the SPOTY gong in recognition of his achievements both on and off the pitch.

The former Arsenal captain, 48, became the club’s record goalscorer during his playing career and won the Euros and World Cup with France.
Since retiring in 2014, Henry has worked as an ambassador, coach and pundit, while also championing diversity in football.
Henry said: “Football has given me everything and I gave it my all.
“To be recognised as part of its history with this Lifetime Achievement award and to have made my mark for the fans and my teammates is something I’ll never take for granted.”

Henry joins a stellar list of previous winners of SPOTY’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
Billie Jean King, Pele, Sir Bobby Charlton and Usain Bolt are among those to have scooped the prize.
Henry’s career started at French club Monaco in 1994 and spanned over two decades, but he made his name during eight years at Arsenal.
The Frenchman helped fire the Gunners to two Premier League titles and three FA Cups.

Henry scored 228 goals for Arsenal – overtaking Ian Wright as the club’s all-time record scorer – and he won the Premier League’s Golden Boot four times.
After leaving Arsenal in 2007 to join Barcelona, the former striker enjoyed more success.

Henry played a key role as Barca won the treble of the Champions League, Copa del Rey and LaLiga in the 2008-09 season.
He returned to Arsenal on loan at the end of his career in 2012 and had a memorable time, scoring twice in seven games.
