Claire Sweeney has shared some teasers ahead of the Emmerdale and Coronation Street crossover episode. The soap actress is “honoured” to star in the special episode which she described as “epic”. Earlier this year, soap bosses confirmed an exciting hour-long broadcast when the worlds of both soaps will collide.

The episode, which has been billed as “Corriedale”, will air on Monday, January 5 at 8pm. The broadcast will mark a piece of soap history when the worlds of the cobbles and the fictional Yorkshire village will intertwine.

The soap stars were in attendance for the episode’s premiere in Bradford on Tuesday. The ECHO was also in attendance at the star-studded event held at the National Science and Media Museum.

Actors and actresses from both soaps made their way down the red carpet in celebration of the iconic event in showbiz. The ECHO spoke to a range of stars, including Claire Sweeney who was quick to praise the episode.

She said: “I think it’s a piece of history. You look back on the old days of the tram crash, you look back on when the aeroplane came down on Emmerdale, they were historic pieces in the soap and this is the same, it’s never happened before.”

The “Corriedale” episode is jam-packed and viewers must prepare themselves for drama, heartbreak and an emotional rollercoaster.

Claire, who portrays Cassie Plummer on Coronation Street, said: “It’s not just like a regular episode where we stroll in the Woolpack or Emmerdale strolls into the Rovers, it’s epic.”

The 54-year-old actress has been a hit with fans ever since she arrived on the cobbles as Cassandra Plummer, the daughter of Dame Maureen Lipman’s character Evelyn. She first set foot in Weatherfield in 2023 and has been at the centre of the action since.

It’s been a busy time for Cassie as she continues to care for her son Tyrone Dobbs, who was paralysed following a hit and run accident earlier this year. She also found herself falling for Steve McDonald, poisoning the beloved Ken Barlow and fighting with Tracy Barlow in the street.

But the drama is not slowing down as she also finds herself caught up in the Emmerdale crossover episode. Claire told the ECHO she feels “honoured” to be one of the few stars lucky enough to star in the episode.

She said: “It’s wonderful to be a part of this, I’m absolutely thrilled. I feel really honoured to be here today talking about it, to have experienced it, going over to Emmerdale filming there, the night shoots in the field- it was all a joy.”

Speaking about what happens in the episode itself, she said: “I am going to the Debbie and Ronnie’s wedding, but it’s the trials and tribulations of getting home from the wedding, and lots of drama between Steve and Tracy.”

Teasing what’s next for Cassie on the cobbles, she shared with the ECHO: “I actually don’t know, we only get the scripts so far in advance. But we’ve got a great writing team so they’ll come up with good stuff.”

“Corriedale” will air on ITV1 and ITVX on Monday, January 5
