Penn State standout first-year defender will enter transfer portal

Chaz Coleman, a buzz player during August practices and in September, has announced will not return to Penn State in 2026.

The Nittany Lions’ true freshman edge rusher took to social media on Thursday to say he is entering the transfer portal in January.

Coleman wrote on X: “After much thought and consideration, I have decided to enter the transfer portal this coming January to pursue other opportunities.

“I’d like thank James Franklin and his staff for believing in me and teaching me what it means to believe in myself.”

Coleman, a four-star prospect from Ohio, made a strong impression on former PSU defensive coordinator Jim Knowles leading up to the Lions’ season opener.

The 6-4, 246-pound Coleman appeared in nine games in 2025. He finished with three tackles for loss, a sack, three quarterback hurries, two fumble recoveries and a forced fumble.

Penn State plays Clemson in the Pinstripe Bowl on Dec. 27 at Yankee Stadium.
