Jakobi Meyers has quickly reshaped the Jaguars’ offseason plans

At the NFL trade deadline, the Jacksonville Jaguars traded for veteran receiver Jakobi Meyers, and it quickly proved to be a great move. In six games, Meyers has 27 receptions for 355 yards and three touchdowns. More importantly, the Jaguars are 5-1 since acquiring the wide receiver, winning their last five games.
Meyers has quickly proven to be a valuable player for Jacksonville, and that’s why he was recently named an extension candidate by Mike DiRocco in a recent ESPN piece. The veteran wideout is playing in the final season of his current contract and is set to be a free agent this offseason. However, his play since the trade has made Jacksonville’s decision easy. Here’s the skinny.
“Meyers has been the Jaguars’ leader in catches (27) and receiving yards (355) since the team acquired him via trade from the Raiders on Nov. 4,” DiRocco wrote. “He’s in the last year of a three-year, $33 million contract, and the Jaguars want him back as he has become quarterback Trevor Lawrence’s most trusted receiver, especially in the middle of the field. The 29-year-old had a career-high 1,027 receiving yards with Las Vegas in 2024.”

The Jaguars must re-sign Jakobi Meyers in 2026 offseason
Simply put, Jakobi Meyers has been too good of a weapon for Trevor Lawrence and Jacksonville to let him walk. The former Clemson Tiger has been playing some of the best football of his career in recent weeks, and the presence of Meyers is a big reason why. The Jaguars brought him in because he’s a tough receiver who doesn’t drop the ball, and he has delivered on that since arriving.
If Jacksonville can re-sign him like they should, the team would have an elite trio with Meyers, Brian Thomas Jr., and Travis Hunter. With Lawrence finding his stride and Liam Coen having his offense and foundation established, the Jaguars could be even more dangerous in 2026.
It will all come down to whether the team can keep Meyers around or not. The receiver, who is 29 years old, had the best year of his career in 2024, catching 87 passes for 1,027 yards and four touchdowns in Vegas. He has been playing at that form since joining the Jaguars, so it’ll be interesting to see what he can do in a full season in Jacksonville.
