LA Rams at Seattle Seahawks preview
The Los Angeles Rams visit the Seattle Seahawks in a huge contest in the battle to finish top of the NFC West, and the hosts could have the edge at Lumen Field.
Both teams boast 11-3 records with three games of the regular season remaining, so the winner will be in pole position to clinch both the divisional crown and the NFC number one seed in the playoffs.
The Rams made a slow start against the Detroit Lions last week but they took off in the third quarter, scoring 17 unanswered points in a high-stakes battle that ended 41-34 in their favour.
LA racked up 514 yards and 30 first downs against Detroit, and they also scored a touchdown on four of their six visits to the red zone, producing another sterling performance to underline their status as clear Super Bowl favourites.
They did, however, lose star receiver Davante Adams to a hamstring injury and his absence against Seattle is a big blow considering he leads the NFL in receiving touchdowns.
The Seahawks, meanwhile, had one eye on this clash in last week’s underwhelming 18-16 win over the Indianapolis Colts.
Seattle’s defence was impressive, allowing just 3.7 yards per play and 215 total yards to the Philip Rivers-led visitors, and they will need to operate at that level again if they are to beat the Rams.
The pair met in Week 11 when Seattle quarterback Sam Darnold threw four interceptions in a 21-19 defeat at SoFi Stadium.
However, statistically the Seahawks were superior to the Rams in nearly every category bar turnovers. They recorded 26 first downs to LA’s 12 and racked up 414 total yards, 165 more than the Rams, who were kept scoreless in the second half.
A similar performance should allow Seattle to gain a measure of revenge at Lumen Field.
