Jamie Morrison named AVCA National Coach of the Year

It was announced that Texas A&M volleyball coach Jamie Morrison was named the American Volleyball Coaches Association Division I National Coach of the Year. Morrison is in his third year with the Aggies, and is the first Aggie head coach to receive this honor since the Award’s creation in 1982.
He has led the Aggies to a historic season, leading them to their first Final Four appearance in program history. Additionally, A&M finished 14-1 in the regular season and boasted its highest-ever winning percentage of .933 — even higher than when it finished first in the Southeastern Conference in 2015.
This season four different Aggies were named All-Americans, five All-Region and four All-SEC — a record amount of accolades for A&M.
The road to the Final Four started with a reverse sweep against 2-seed Louisville, followed by a five-set take down against heavily favored 1-seed Nebraska to secure a spot in the semifinals.
Now, Morrison will lead A&M to its Final Four appearance against 1-seed Pittsburgh tonight at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Missouri, at 5:30 p.m. for a spot in the National Championship.
“I am honored to receive this award and accept it on behalf of our outstanding university, athletic department, athletes, coaching staff, fans and everyone who works tirelessly within our program,” Morrison said. “This recognition is the result of a true collective effort, and I could not be prouder of the people I work alongside or the place I am fortunate to call home.”
