Texas legend Poona Ford earns shoutout from the GOAT

Poona Ford is one of the few Charlie Strong era players still in the NFL, and he’s making waves. It’s not going unnoticed by the GOAT, Tom Brady, who called Ford an “underrated pickup” for the Rams.
This was an active week for the Longhorns in the NFL, from Gunnar Helm to Bijan Robinson making game changing plays. Likely the coolest moment, however, found Poona Ford, former Longhorns DL during the Strong and Herman era. Ford got major recognition from the GOAT of football during the Rams game against the Lions.
Poona Ford is a rarely talked about player in the NFL, which is often the case for IDLs. However, he has positioned himself as one of the top nose tackles in the NFL over the last few years. It’s not going entirely unnoticed, particularly from Tom Brady on Sunday. Brady isn’t alone either. More and more people are starting to recognize the talent and importance of Ford.
Ford was drafted by the Seahawks in 2018 and immediately made an impact there. After five seasons in Seattle, he was picked up by the Buffalo Bills. Since, he’s spent one year in Buffalo with the Bills, then the last two in Los Angeles, one for each of the city’s teams. He’s joined the Rams and has been a major impact player in the Rams dominant defensive front.
As more Longhorns begin to litter the NFL, many of the younger guys are the ones that make headlines. Bijan Robinson, Xavier Worthy and Matthew Golden will get much of the attention, but Ford has asserted himself as a top-tier IDL in the NFL. Ford is not 30, but seems to be just getting started and I imagine more compliments from the GOAT are in his future.
